Perfect timing for Tevez biography

The risk that every biographer runs when he turns his attention to a sports personality is that his subject's star might have faded by the time the fruits of his labours hit the bookstands.

Ian Macleay could hardly have timed things better, however, with the release of his new book on Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.

Carlos Tevez - Welcome to Manchester, published by John Blake on April 5th, arrives with City leading the race for fourth place in the Premier League and a coveted Champions League opportunity, and with the Argentinian forward at the top of his form with 26 goals to his credit, the latest coming in Saturday's 6-1 win at Burnley.

With Tevez at the top of his game and firmly established as the idol of Eastlands, Macleay can expect his biography to be flying off the shelves, especially after taking its title from the 'Welcome to Manchester' poster that City rolled out when Tevez joined them last summer, infuriating rival Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Macleay, who has been watching football since the 1950s, is the author of several football biographies, including books on Joe Cole, Owen Hargreaves and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also helped Alan Hudson with his acclaimed Working Man's Ballet and assisted former Chelsea chairman Brian Sears with a history of the West London club.
